So,what would you do when someone you dont know pulls up your driveway, started beeping the horn, and when you don't come to the door, starts ringing your bell? Then, drive away, only to come back, start beeping their horn again and when you still won't come to the door, rings your bell and starts yelling and pounding at your door?
Call 9-1-1! At least that's what i did today.
Well, i'm by myself at home with my dog, wasn't expecting anyone. I was in the kitchen fixing something, when i heard a car's horn beeping. Since i can see half of my driveway from my kitchen window, i peeked and i saw an old car [not good with car's model] and i thought, whoever it is will realize he's got the wrong house. So, the guy [later found out it's a man] stepped out of his car and rang the door bell. I didn't come to the door. I figured he will realize he's got the wrong address. So after a while, he drove away. I thought maybe he realized that no one's home and that he's got the wrong address.
Minutes later, he came back, started beeping the horn again and when nobody opened the door for him, started banging at my front door & yelling [couldn't make out what or who he's yelling for]. Anyway, i got so scared, i called 911 and told the operator that i couldn't get through with 3-1-1; told the dispatch that someone's banging [yes, not just a polite knock] at my door and that they send an officer right away. I hang up the phone, went to my bedroom window and saw the car pulling away. So then i ran to the front so i could make out his license plate number. Apparently, he saw the blinds move when i tried to get a look at his plates, so he pulled into my driveway again. I then went back to my bedroom coz i figure, if he's that mad yelling at my front door, he could have a gun, shoot the door, then i have to be as far away from the front door, where i will be safe from the bullet. After a while, he left.
The cops came, i told them my story, gave them a good description of the car [green with black hood on] and the license plate. They told me to just call 9-1-1 again if he comes back and meanwhile, they will drive around and try to look for the car.
So, what do you all make out of this? Am i too paranoid? Was i watching too much CSI or Law & Order or any of those shows?I didnt know what came to me but my first instinct was to not open the door and to call the cops. In January of this year, Oprah did a show about "Gift of Fear" [you can read about it here]. I believe what came to me today was my instinct. I don't even want to venture my thoughts into what could have happened to me earlier or wether i just overreacted. All i know is that something told my guts not to open the door.
So please, if you are not expecting anyone, don't open your door to strangers. If they are really in the right address, they will leave a note or call you on the phone. Sad as it may seem, a lot of things happen because we don't trust our instincts. Just remember, it's better to be safe than sorry.

Pediatrics
for the past three weeks [and one more week to go], i have been on pediatrics rotation. i seem to get past their illness and focus on how cute they are. i seem to be drawn to look at their beautiful innocent eyes, their chubby cheeks and those little fingers and toes and it seem to be so far fetched when you think that a few years from now, those tiny feet won't be so tiny no more.
couple of days ago, i was assigned to care for a 21 day old baby. she is as cute as a button. she's at par with the growth and development. at 21 days, she responds to my voice and turns her head towards me when i talk to her from the other side of the crib. she's got a thick, black, shiny hair on top of her head, and a few lanugo in her arms and back. she is sooooo soft when i touched her skin. i can go on and on listing down her angelic qualities but i guess you all get the picture.
her mom's in the room trying to get some sleep. so i did my job as quietly as possible. took her temperature, pulse, respiration, measured her head circumference and height. she is a little bit congested when i listened to her lungs and i noticed a suction device on the bedside table, and my hunch was confirmed. poor little button nose. she sneezed twice too when i was measuring her lol!
i picked her up and fed her 2 oz of milk. for such a small baby, she sure can drink up that milk fast! and burped a giant one too!!! how cute!!! well of course, what followed was expected. i got a present from her, thank you little booger lol!
she then fell asleep in my arms but when i put her down in the crib, she woke up and started fussing. so i picked her up again and found myself humming a lullabye...uggghhh!!! rock a bye baby on the tree top!!! LOL!!!!! her mom said i'm spoiling her. i cant help it hahahaha. i, who had wanted a baby for so long, cant help but hold those babies close to me in amazement.
i sooo love pediatric rotation!!!!

it's beginning to look a lot like christmas...
am so glad i didnt have to go to clinicals last wednesday. didn't have to work either thursday and friday. i have finals on Monday and im staying indoors til sunday and hit the books. oh, yeah, internet from time to time - hey i need a break, you know. i'm so sorry for those who have to drive in this weather - including my husband. life is apples and lemons, sometimes i get the apples and you get the lemons - that's how fair life is - hush and dont complain now! lol!!!!
so above is cookie's first picture with a snowman. my baby's 17 months! still the same goofball that she is. i sometimes wish she'd grow up fast so she won't be so hyper anymore but i guess that's why i love her. she always know how to steal a kiss from me!!!!!
my new life
fall semester is almost over - i cant believe i only have until Monday before i could regain my life back. Looking back, these are the things that nursing school changed in me:
1. i became a slob - ok not so much but gone are the days where i would have the weekends free to clean my house top to bottom and do all the laundry - plus fold them and put them away. Now, the only place that gets cleaned all the time is the bathroom and the kitchen. I have written a new definition to clean - floors that are free of clutter read: clothes or any big items on the floor; if it's not gonna hurt if you step on it, it can stay on the floor :D [books and papers on the floor and all surfaces has replaced the area rug and accessories that are normally like vase or decorative objects]
2. sleeping is now a luxury to me - i use to sleep 7-9 hours every night, but not anymore. I'd be so lucky to get 6 hours of sleep, normally i only get 4-5 hours of sleep and the rest of the time, my eyes are glued on the books. It would be deathly boring if it was not because of some of those pictures that i agree, are quite interesting to look at. Read craven Chapter 52 lol!!!
3. I gained more muffin-top! (*gasp*) - lunch in school most of the time looks like it was prepared in an assembly line for the jail people. i would not be surprised if their [jail] food would taste a lot better - cafeteria food is horrible! soup most of the time is chili, salad will all be wilted greens, burger would be so dried up might as well call it beef jerky and pizza is undercooked you would be better off renaming it - DOUGH! hehehe muffin top is not mainly because of food in fairness to the cafeteria. it was because of hours of sitting hunched over the books so dont be surprised if you see me next time looking like Quasimodo with bloodshot eyes like a witch who stayed long after halloween was over
4. tv viewing has been reduced to really important stuff i want to watch - hey i still get to watch tv maybe i still have a life ? :P i use to watch tv all the time and movies too! now, my bestfriend is the DVD recorder and it's remote control. i dont have to feel so guilty about watching tv coz i'm still saving time by forwarding the commercials - so instead of watching a normal program for an hour, i saved about 20 minutes by forwarding it. see - i gained 20 minutes!!!!
i never thought id feel guilty reading the sale paper, watching tv, checking my email, friendster & myspace. even taking long showers makes me feel guilty!!!! when we had orientation for nursing and the instructor said, you have to budget your time wisely even taking your shower, i thought - you're so full of crap! shame shame - they're right!!!
oh well, blabbing here has used up my lunch time, i better go back to my books and NCP. i am now feeling guilt again lol!!!!
